Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, emphasized the importance of building resilient families as the main key to preventing violence directed at women and children.
“Family is the primary place, the main learning place for our children to instill moral values, noble values, love, and provides a sense of peace for our children,” she said here on Tuesday.
However, she expressed concern over the high rates of violence occurring in society.
According to the 2024 National Women's Life Experience Survey, one in four women in Indonesia has experienced violence.
Moreover, she said, it is even more concerning that the 2024 National Children and Adolescents’ Life Experience Survey shows that one in two Indonesian children has also experienced violence.
Data from the Online Information System for Women and Children Protection (Simfoni PPA) recorded 11,850 cases of violence, with the number of victims exceeding 12,000 people during the January 2025-June 12, 2025 period.
Based on this data, women are the largest group of victims, with over 10, 000 cases, while male victims number more than 2,000 cases.
“The most common type of violence is sexual violence, and the most frequent location is within the household, which should be the safest place,” Minister Fauzi said.
She also highlighted the impact of technology on children.
Referring to data from the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in 2024, it is recorded that 39.71 percent of children already use mobile phones and 35.57 percent have accessed the internet.
According to Fauzi, the main causes of violence against children stem from three factors: improper parenting patterns, the unwise use of gadgets, and environmental influences.
Therefore, she said that the activities of the National Family Day can serve as opportunities to strengthen collaboration among all elements of society.
She further stated that Indonesian families must be the best place for children to grow, learn, and dream.
“With empowered families, we can build a prosperous and resilient society, in order to realize a developed and just Indonesia,” she said.
