Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is accelerating the construction of border posts to strengthen territorial sovereignty and boost economic growth in border regions, according to a cabinet minister.
“We are fully committed to completing all stages of border post construction in line with established quality standards,” Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said on Sunday.
He added that the Ministry of Public Works is enhancing cross-sector coordination, including with the National Border Management Agency (BNPP), to ensure smooth project execution.
The ministry is supporting the construction of three unfinished border posts under the second phase of development: the Long Midang Border Post in Nunukan, East Kalimantan; the Oepoli Border Post in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara; and the Sei Kelik Border Post in Sintang, West Kalimantan.
In addition to buildings, the ministry is also building access roads connecting the posts to the nearest national roads.
Since 2015, the construction has been divided into two phases. Seven posts were completed during the first phase, and 11 are planned under the second. All seven posts in the first phase have been built and inaugurated, while eight out of 11 in the second phase have been completed.
The government has proposed a third phase, which includes the construction of eight additional border posts, including those in West Kalimantan and Papua. Implementation awaits a new presidential instruction.
